Wrestling for Iowa State University, the Bakersfield High School graduate won the title in the 197 pound weight class for his second consecutive national championship.

Varner beat Nebraska’s Craig Brester 5-2.

With the match tied at one late in the third period, Varner scored a two point take down with a quick move to get Brester down to the mat.

Varner added another late take down to secure the championship.

The senior finished the 2010 season with an undefeated 31-0 record.
